Summary

Golan Trevize, former Councilman of the First Foundation, has chosen the future, and it is Gaia。 A superorganism, Gaia is a holistic planet with a common consciousness so intensely united that every dewdrop, every pebble, every being, can speak for all—and feel for all。 It is a realm in which privacy is not only undesirable, it is incomprehensible。

But is it the right choice for the destiny of mankind? While Trevize feels it is, that is not enough。 He must know。

Trevize believes the answer lies at the site of humanity's roots: fabled Earth 。 。 。 if it still exists。 For no one is sure where the planet of Gaia's first settlers is to be found in the immense wilderness of the Galaxy。 Nor can anyone explain why no record of Earth has been preserved, no mention of it made anywhere in Gaia's vast world-memory。 It is an enigma Trevize is determined to resolve, and a quest he is determined to undertake, at any cost。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Pros- revisiting Solaria, Aurora, etc and seeing how they’ve developed since the robot seriesCons- Bliss and Trevize’s constant bickering is repetitive and stale- whole story was a long winded way of getting to one conversation between Danil and Trevize。 Nothing that happened along the way really mattered - the usual aha moment at the end of foundation books was summarized in one sentence that wasn’t really informed by the adventures along the way

*vomit*No stars…。Fallom is the most annoying character across all literature。 No one would disagree with this statement。The Trevize/Bliss conversations were the essence of poor writing。And poor Pelorat didn’t have enough tricks to be in a one trick pony show。This was a colossal waste of time and I pity the poor tree that died to make the paper。*vomit*

For anyone wanting to read this book, I would suggest looking at a spark notes summary of the book instead of treading through 500 pages of the last entry in the Foundation series。 I do have to admit that I meant to read Foundation and Empire but picked out this book instead on accident because, I mean, honestly, I can't be the only one who has made this mistake。 But given that this is the last entry in the series, it was a massive disappointment。 I don't even want to dive into many problems I t For anyone wanting to read this book, I would suggest looking at a spark notes summary of the book instead of treading through 500 pages of the last entry in the Foundation series。 I do have to admit that I meant to read Foundation and Empire but picked out this book instead on accident because, I mean, honestly, I can't be the only one who has made this mistake。 But given that this is the last entry in the series, it was a massive disappointment。 I don't even want to dive into many problems I thought this book had, subjective or objective。 The dialogues were stiff and awkward, the motivation of the characters seemed ill-defined。。。 I could not wait to be done with it, so I could go read something else。 In fact the pages of this book were the last thing I saw before I faded into hours-long naps on my couch, and I never take naps。 。。。more

While the overall story is perhaps worthy of 4 stars, especially as an epilogue to his Robot series, the syereotypes and depictions of gender make this only a 3。5 read。

Finally we make it to Earth! While the journey getting there does provide some intrigue and there’s a huge, awesome twist at the end, this entry still isn’t a gripping read。 At times I had to force myself to get through it。 It’s on par with the rest of the series and better than some installments。

This one is the longest in the foundation series, with quite a bit of monotonous conversational parts。 But, this book perfectly wraps up the series。 Asimov is the goat。

Loved the surprise ending and would have loved reading what happens next but alas this was the final book in the series。 Asimov has great ideas and knowledge of our marvellous universe and he weaves a good yarn。 Bonus - in this final book he upgrades the laws of robotics so all fans of his Robot series should read this one as well。 'nuff said。 Loved the surprise ending and would have loved reading what happens next but alas this was the final book in the series。 Asimov has great ideas and knowledge of our marvellous universe and he weaves a good yarn。 Bonus - in this final book he upgrades the laws of robotics so all fans of his Robot series should read this one as well。 'nuff said。 。。。more

I was quite pleased with the Asimov spark in this book, weaving unique worlds of possibilities together into a coherent story full of surprises。 I read this after all the other Asimov series of books (save the Foundation prequels) and think the sort of nostalgia from all the cross references was the cherry on top for me。 Not the most iconic world building, but Asimov really tied together a lot of loose ends, and I enjoyed it。

Love the Foundation series, but this one was a bit of a slog and Trevize was not a likable character and is weirdly chauvinist at times。 That said the ending is good and provides good closure to a great and classic series。

A poor end to the series。Don't get me wrong - the actual ending itself was fine。 The journey was not。 It fell off the rails involving rancid descriptions "not unripe" areolae, absolutely unnecessary and awful descriptions of breasts every other chapter, and space STDs that won't hurt you as long as you get off the planet。 Also the main character becomes a major asshole and dehumanizes a child。 Oh yeah, there's space hermaphrodites。How can such a great series end on such a low point with extremel A poor end to the series。Don't get me wrong - the actual ending itself was fine。 The journey was not。 It fell off the rails involving rancid descriptions "not unripe" areolae, absolutely unnecessary and awful descriptions of breasts every other chapter, and space STDs that won't hurt you as long as you get off the planet。 Also the main character becomes a major asshole and dehumanizes a child。 Oh yeah, there's space hermaphrodites。How can such a great series end on such a low point with extremely unlikeable one-dimensional characters? They just act likes assholes and mope about a ship and never listen to each other and then apologize and then go back to being assholes with absolutely no character development whatsoever。 And mixed inbetween this you get the worst sentence ever put to print where Asimov describes some breasts as small but not unripe with large, dark areolae。 。。。more

A great direct sequel to Foundation's Edge。 It starts right where the last book left off。The story is as interesting as the book before and brings new elements to the already magnificent universe created by the author。 However, the story is a bit repetitive, even if it was necessary to reach the conclusion of this part of the story。 Some new worlds are explored and new characters come into play。I liked book 4 more, but it was still an excellent addition to the series and as usual, masterfully wr A great direct sequel to Foundation's Edge。 It starts right where the last book left off。The story is as interesting as the book before and brings new elements to the already magnificent universe created by the author。 However, the story is a bit repetitive, even if it was necessary to reach the conclusion of this part of the story。 Some new worlds are explored and new characters come into play。I liked book 4 more, but it was still an excellent addition to the series and as usual, masterfully written。 。。。more

It was very satisfying to get to some level of conclusion here, even though I read this separate from the Robot series so there were some things I didn't have as much context on。 Asimov became a much better writer in the 30 years between the first 3 books and this one。 It was very satisfying to get to some level of conclusion here, even though I read this separate from the Robot series so there were some things I didn't have as much context on。 Asimov became a much better writer in the 30 years between the first 3 books and this one。 。。。more
